Commercial Manager

An industry leading opportunity for a Commercial Manager to join a global engineering services joint venture business based in Bristol with a salary up to £55,000. This commercial management position has been created due to business growth & a new large-scale programme that has been awarded. The Commercial Manager will sit in a project commercial team, with excellent progression opportunities into a Senior Commercial Manager position over the next few years.

Candidates will have previous experience within supply chain, procurement, or commercial specifically within an engineering or related environment, at commercial manager or procurement manager level, and be keen to progress in their career.



Role responsibilities of the Commercial Manager include:

  • As a Commercial Manager you will be part of a dedicated and diverse commercial team, and will manage a key work scope from a commercial perspective to deliver a large complex MOD programme.
  • This will include industry and customer engagement, full RFx lifecycle, full contract drafting (with legal support) through to signature. This will be across either the provision of aircraft, simulators or infrastructure within a defence environment.
  • You will provide commercial leadership and guidance to the project, and support functions such as programmes, finance and technical. You will be a key link between suppliers, our client and the customer on all things commercial.
  • Utilising recognised commercial and procurement tools, develop and manage a competitive tender process within agreed guidelines and timeframes.
  • In addition, you will be in a position to provide guidance to other members of our company to educate and ensure meets its contractual and legal obligations and enforces its contractual and legal rights in support of delivering wider company business objectives, as well as and provide upskilling services to others.
  • In addition to the primary role, you may choose to join some additional groups including the Diversity and Inclusion council, become one of our Wellbeing Champions, become a First Aider or join the Sports and Social committee.


Person Specification of the Commercial Manager:

  • You will already have a breadth of knowledge and skills in core commercial activities including contract drafting, RFx lifecycle, RFx creations and documentation management, and having experience of working in a cross functional business environment with subject matter experts.
  • You will have experience of managing large complex procurement projects, demonstrate maximising profitability, negotiating the best terms and conditions from suppliers, converting requirements into a competitive tender, strong RFP evaluation experience
  • The ability to understand, digest and apply logic to large complex contracts, and be able to work with legal teams to effectively draft documentation.
  • Our client recognises that candidates do not necessarily initially have all of the skills required, and therefore have a history of commercial, programme and business upskilling training options within the team. A self-starter attitude to unlock and benefits from the support available is essential.
  • You will thrive when working with stakeholders across all levels coupled with your ability to truly understand our business from a commercial standpoint. You will have strong communication skills and be able to actively build meaningful business relationships with stakeholders across the business, customer and supplier organisations. You will have the opportunity to visit our training sites around the UK and build 'on site' relationships and gain an understanding of site operations.
  • You will have achieved or work towards relevant Commercial professional accreditation/certification e.g. MCIPS or World Commerce & Contracting (formerly IACCM)
