A fantastic opportunity for a Purchasing Manager / Materials Manager to join a leading Building Trade Merchant in Southampton with a salary up to £30k. This role will report into the Commercial Manager.

Candidates must have experience in a Purchasing and Stock Control role working in a Builders Merchant, Distributor or have worked in an FMCG/Retail industry or similar where demand planning and forecasting are essential tools.

Role responsibilities of the Purchasing Manager Include:

  • Develop, lead and execute purchasing strategies
  • Track and report key functional metrics to reduce expenses and improve effectiveness
  • Craft negotiation strategies and close deals with optimal terms
  • Forecast supply and demand to prevent overstocking and running out-of-stock (OOS)
  • Oversee the effective placing of orders to replenish stock as needed
  • Perform cost and scenario analysis, and benchmarking
  • Seek and partner with reliable vendors and suppliers
  • Determine quantity and timing of deliveries
  • Monitor and forecast upcoming levels of demand
  • Coordinate regular stock audits across all depots whilst effectively managing aged stock levels
  • Assess, manage and mitigate risks

Person Specification of the Purchasing Manager Include:

  • Proven working experience as a Purchasing Manager or Stock Control Manager
  • Experience of working in the Construction, Building or FM Trades or
  • Experience in FMCG or Retail sectors
  • Familiarity with sourcing and vendor management
  • Interest in market dynamics along with business sense
  • Strong negotiation skills and networking
  • Ability to gather and analyse data and to work with figures
  • Solid judgment along with decision making skills
  • Strong leadership capabilities

This role will be well suited to you if you have held a Senior Buyer, Lead Buyer, Purchasing Manager Stock Controller or Materials Manager and have worked in a Builders Merchant, Distribution or FMCG/Retail Industry.
